REXILE

When I was a young boy, I loved playing obscure video games on my computer. A favorite passtime of mine was just browsing websites, downloading games, and playing them over and over again. Of course a time of maturity came over me, I had a job and paid for AAA games and the such, like a normal person would. But, while cleaning up files on my PC, I had found a .zip file of one of the games I used to play. And this sparked my curiousity again. I played all of the games again, this rush of nostalgia coming over me- but I wasn't done yet. There was one site I used specifically for finding these games, and I decided to take another look at the site and look for entirely new games. There was one that caught my eye: a game called REXILE.

There were no screenshots. The description simply read: "a smile is seen." No one had played the game, there were no reviews. But strangelythe game was uploaded onto 2016, and this fact seems odd to you. Why had no one even bothered to download it? My curiousity had peaked. I downloaded the game, and booted it up. A loud screeching noise played, and I nearly jumped out of my chair. Something was flashing on screen, but I couldn't get a good look onwhat it was. Naturally, I thought to myself, "god, one of those screamer games!" And who wouldn't? There were times were I was so excited to play some of these games and they just turnout to be fakeouts. It got on my nerves quick. But then, the game actually started. It was a basic platformer, and it was a very dark room. You played as a man with no visible arms(which is pretty silly) and wore a brown... tunic? I moved to the right of the screen, cautious of what would happen next. I expected another screamer, yet it didn't come. The game seemedbland at the start, just invisible walls and lots of jumping over said invisible walls. But my player character was slowly getting to the bottom of the screen, and eventually I hadprogressed deep into the darkness. To my surprise, the next level had colour in it. There was a deep blue in the background- "An underground level," I thought. But yet, there wereno enemies. There were no collectibles. There was no real "game." Just heading to the end of the screen. This time the gameplay was less interesting, no blocks to jump over. Just a flat plane, that seemed to last hours!

It was then I decided to take a quick break and check my messages on my phone, when I recieved a text from a number that wasn't in my contacts list. It was an audio file, one I can only describe as slightly disturbing- it was a heavily distorted voice that I couldn't make out. Yet I didn't think anything of it. I went back to playing the game. When I went back to the game, I noticed the background had disappeared. There was text on the screen as well, a link to a website, all in what seemed to be lowercase letters. I personally think it is more of a font problem. You know how some fonts just look like they are in all caps? I think it was the same situation for this, so I couldn't access the website... Though I don't think I would of wanted to, anyways. The camera finally stopped scrolling with the player. There was a strange figure at the end of the long hallway. A text bubble popped up:

"i am one made by the creator, as you are only a product of his existance as well. we have purpose, despite us not seeming like it."

The game closed, and I was a bit confused. I wasn't creeped out. I wasn't scared. I was expecting a bit more. While there was a "last hurrah," it still didn't satisfy me. A text file was created on my desktop. I opened the file.

"III helped me upload the files. I'm a bit scared to use uploading sites, but hes good. I like him a lot. He even spellchecks for me! Don't worry, you'll get it soon! - II"
